July ... summertime update

July - and the St George summer is here, and time for a Cobra (and other things) update.

Sidebar ... it's HOT today.  Thermometer in the truck read 126 degrees today as I was leaving downtown and heading back up the hill around 4:30 in the afternoon.  Fortunately it "cooled off" to around 108 degrees when I got up the hill to the house..

126 degrees around 4:30 this afternoon.  Fortunately it's a "dry heat" - LOL!

Cobra progress:

Building the Cobra is coming along.  Still working on wiring and related stuff.  Because St George is a relatively small town, lots of what I need/want isn't available locally - so as noted before, I've been ordering lots of stuff on-line,  an "waiting for delivery times" can be a killer.

Progress on wiring up behind the dash - mostly related to addition of self-cancelling turn signals.  Several terminal strips and a couple relays.
Beginnings of "behind-the-dash-wiring" - more (much more!) to follow
The rear area wiring (fuel tank, fuel pump and brake light/turn signals etc) has been "mocked in" for a while.
Fuel tank and preliminary rear wiring
And the main harness going to the engine bay is in ... the big dark wire loom is carrying wires to the alternator and start - and will be mostly hidden once the engine is in.

Getting started on engine bay wiring

I also did a quick mock up of the dash, and installed it to see how it'd look (helps keep me inspired and motivated)
Dash - when finished - is gonna look great!
And put in one of the seats ... to check for sitting room, and clearance around the pedals.  Everything looks like it's gonna fit OK - so I guess I'll keep building - LOL!

I also installed the triple CNC Remote Reservoirs - one each for front and rear brakes, and hydraulic clutch.
CNC Reservoirs
Found some mysterious green "stuff" inside the reservoirs that had me concerned for a while, but after a quick call to CNC  ... it turns out to be a sealing material put inside to help ensure no leaks, esp. along the wall where the reservoir is welded to the mounting bracket.
Mysterious green stuff - turns out to be sealing material - and is "OK"
You recall the under-dash console that I pictured in my previous update - well, I got mine "mocked in.  I've not yet riveted it together as a final assembly so I can ponder if it's right or not ... the cleco's are holding it just fine for now.  I've learned to take my time before riveting ....

Under dash console

Next steps - picked up some "new-and-improved" vinyl (which looks like leather and will last longer) and padding today that'll be used to cover the dash, under-dash console, trans tunnel and rear cockpit wall and with luck will start dash covering in the next few days.

And the engine should be assembled and ready for installation shortly thereafter.

That's it for now - more pictures when I get the dash covering done ....
